91 Groups Applying For INEC Recognition As Political Parties Ahead Of 2027 Election And The Fate Of Dr. Mathew Chima Amadi’s Political Mission

By Ibe Innocent Ugonna

As the 2027 General election draws near, the political landscape in Imo State is heating up. One individual who has been making waves is Dr. Mathew Chima Amadi, a renowned business tycoon and Director of The Mazi Organization (TMO). With his unrelenting media team churning out captions and write-ups, it’s clear that Amadi is gearing up for a significant political position, likely the Governorship Seat of the Owerri Douglas House.

Notably, since the beginning of democracy in 1999, an Owerri zone person has only held the governor’s seat for a mere 7 months, indicating a glaring marginalization. This historical context suggests that Amadi’s preparations might be aimed at addressing this imbalance.

Given the dominance of certain parties in Imo State politics, it’s unlikely that Amadi will find a home in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP has been plagued by internal crises, and with Sen. Samuel Nnemeka Anyanwu (SamDaddy) already emerging as the party’s consensus candidate, the road ahead for Amadi seems blocked. The PDP’s internal struggles, ranging from unresolved crises within the National Working Committee to disputes over the party’s leadership in the state, further diminish Amadi’s chances.

Similarly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Imo State chapter, poised to produce the next governor, seems an improbable option for Amadi. With his heavyweights being decampees from the Imo APC, it’s unlikely that the party will accommodate his ambitions. The APC’s current stronghold in Imo State politics, coupled with the party’s existing power dynamics, makes it challenging for Amadi to secure the party’s primary ticket.

The Labour Party, still reeling from the 2023 election, seems an unlikely choice for Amadi. APGA, described as a “bulldog which barks from inside the house,” may not be the best fit either, given its limited influence in Imo State politics.

One could equally suggest that The Mazi Organization (TMO) could be one of these 91 Groups running up for INEC recognition as one of the Political Parties in Nigeria, hence the Director has until now refused to identify with any already existing political party in Nigeria.
That notwithstanding, Could Dr. Amadi be patiently waiting for the Atiku, El Rufai, Peter Obi Coalition soon in order to get his ground and secure a governorship ticket and seat?

As the clock ticks closer to the 2027 election, several questions linger. Will Amadi identify with a political party, and if so, which one? Will The Mazi Organization (TMO) transform into a political party, and can its members deliver Amadi during the election? Only time will tell how this political saga unfolds.

It’s worth noting that Amadi has been
recognized for his community services and transformative leadership, earning him the Imo Man of the Year Award. His background as a seasoned activist, development advocate, scholar, and serial entrepreneur makes him a formidable force in Imo State politics.
