Creation In Imo: Danish Envoy Explores Strategic Investment Partnership With Government

By Arthur Obi Opara , Abuja

Imo State is positioning itself for a new wave of economic growth as the Danish envoy to Nigeria has opened high-level discussions with the state government on strategic business partnerships and foreign investment opportunities. The talks are focused on key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, maritime, sports, and human capacity development, with the ultimate goal of tackling unemployment, stimulating innovation, and driving long-term prosperity for the state.
The meeting, held recently at the Imo Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, brought together senior representatives from Denmark and top officials of the Imo State Government. Governor Hope Uzodimma, who has consistently championed policies aimed at economic diversification and infrastructure renewal, welcomed the delegation in what many see as a significant step toward deepening global economic partnerships.
Leading the Danish delegation was the Consul General of Denmark, Jette Bjerrum. She was joined by Miss Victoria Epelle, Trade Adviser on Food and Agriculture at the Royal Danish Consulate, and Hon. Engr. Philip Ejiogu, representing ODK/Nortra Group Denmark. On the state’s side, the meeting was attended by Hon. Sam Nwaobasi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Programme, Policy, and Implementation, alongside the Governor himself.
During the discussions, the Danish team outlined their interest in collaborating on large-scale projects that would not only expand economic opportunities but also provide technical expertise and global market access. Areas of particular interest included the exportation of agricultural products, modern sports facilities development, enhanced maritime operations, and specialized training programs aimed at equipping Imo’s workforce with globally competitive skills.
Hon. Engr. Philip Ejiogu underscored that his group, together with other Danish investors, had identified Imo State as a uniquely strategic hub for agricultural development due to its fertile land, growing infrastructure, and proximity to major trade routes. He noted that the proposed investments would be substantial, targeting both rural and urban areas to ensure broad economic benefits.
The delegation also took time to commend Governor Uzodimma’s administration for its visible strides in infrastructure development, healthcare reform, and policy stability—factors that they said increased investor confidence.
In his remarks, Governor Uzodimma expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the keen interest shown by the Danish delegation. He affirmed that his administration is committed to creating an investor-friendly environment through transparent governance, improved security, and the provision of critical infrastructure.
The Governor emphasized that such international collaborations have the potential to deliver sustainable economic returns, generate thousands of jobs, and transform the state’s economic profile in the years ahead. He assured the delegation that the government would facilitate all necessary processes to ensure the timely commencement and success of the proposed projects.
The talks are expected to continue in the coming weeks, with technical teams from both sides set to outline concrete frameworks and timelines for the partnership. Many observers believe that if successfully implemented, this collaboration could mark a turning point in Imo State’s journey toward becoming a major investment and innovation hub in Nigeria.
