In recent days, Elder Statesman Bob Njemanze has come under heavy criticism for his candid remarks on the political future of Imo State and the rightful place of Owerri Zone in the governorship equation. Some have rushed to label him a betrayer, contractor, or a man who has sold his conscience. Nothing, however, could be farther from the truth.

Bob Njemanze — a proud son of Owerri — has not spoken to destroy his people. Rather, he has spoken with sincerity, courage, and principle — qualities that define a true elder statesman. His words may be uncomfortable for some, but they are grounded in historical truth, moral conviction, and political foresight. For this, he deserves commendation, not condemnation.

1. A Witness to History and Conspiracy

Elder Njemanze lived through, and indeed witnessed, the painful conspiracy that robbed Okigwe Zone of its full tenure. He knows, more than most, how political manipulation and selfish interests truncated justice and equity in our dear state.

By reminding us of this injustice, he is not weakening Owerri Zone’s case. Instead, he is urging us to pursue our aspirations with fairness, honesty, and a full sense of history.

An elder who keeps silent in the face of truth is not worthy of the title. By speaking out, Njemanze has shown that his loyalty is not to personal gain or fleeting popularity, but to the eternal principles of justice and equity.

2. Sincerity Over Sentiment

Many would prefer that Elder Bob Njemanze remain silent or echo popular sentiments. But elders are not meant to follow the crowd — they are meant to guide it.

His insistence that Owerri Zone must not ignore the injustice done to Okigwe is a demonstration of integrity and principle. True leadership is not about telling people what they want to hear, but about telling them what they need to reflect upon. His voice is a call to reason, balance, and fairness — even when it is inconvenient.

3. The Moral Foundation of Equity

Equity is not selective. It cannot be invoked only when it favors us and dismissed when it challenges us. If Owerri insists on equity, then we must also acknowledge that Okigwe’s tenure was unjustly truncated.

To demand justice for ourselves while ignoring the injustice of others weakens our moral foundation. This is the wisdom behind Elder Njemanze’s statement. He is not against Owerri — he is for the truth. He reminds us that our struggle must stand on solid moral ground, for only then can it withstand the test of time.

4. The Courage of a Statesman

It takes courage for an elder to stand before his people and speak an inconvenient truth. Many in his position would have chosen silence or joined the chorus of agitation to preserve relevance. But Elder Njemanze chose the harder path — the path of truth.

For this, he should not be vilified but celebrated. He has proven himself not as a political contractor but as a custodian of conscience.

5. A Call to Owerri Zone: Think Further

Owerri Zone must not dismiss Elder Njemanze’s words as betrayal. Instead, we must pause, reflect, and think deeper. His message is an invitation to look beyond the immediate, to understand the bigger picture, and to pursue a struggle that cannot be morally faulted.

This is why, in the unfolding journey towards 2027, the figure of Ikedi Ohakim stands tall as the most favoured to complete Okigwe’s unfinished tenure. He represents not only experience and stability but also the moral and historical balance that Elder Njemanze is reminding us to uphold. Supporting him is not about sentiment, but about restoring justice and equity.

If we heed this wisdom, we strengthen our case for justice. If we ignore it, we risk repeating the mistakes of history and undermining our own aspirations.

History is not kind to those who shout sentiments but abandon principle. On the other hand, history honors those who stood for truth, even when it was unpopular. Elder Bob Njemanze has chosen the side of truth. For that, he deserves the respect of every Imolite — especially his people in Owerri Zone.

He has spoken as a father, custodian of history, and man of conscience. Owerri must see reason with him. For in defending truth and correcting past wrongs, we secure a stronger and more enduring future for our children.

Let us not condemn him — let us commend him.
Let us not silence him — let us applaud him.
For in Elder Bob Njemanze’s voice, and in the candidacy of Ikedi Ohakim, lies the path to justice, equity, and a stronger Imo State in 2027.
