WEEK-LONG 69TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION OF DR. IKEDI OHAKIM CONCLUDES WITH NATIONWIDE AND DIASPORA THANKSGIVING*

The week-long celebration marking the 69th birthday of His Excellency, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, former Governor of Imo State, has concluded with thanksgiving services held by his followers, admirers and supporters across Imo State, Abuja, Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, as well as in the diaspora, including the United Kingdom, Europe—— Finland,  Poland, the United States and Canada.

The thanksgiving services provided an emotional and reflective conclusion to a week dedicated not merely to celebrating the birthday of a former Governor, but to honouring a life of public service, leadership, sacrifice and enduring commitment to the development of Imo State.

The activities were organized and coordinated by the Bring Back Ohakim (BBO 2027) Organization, alongside the various affiliate support groups, operating under the effective coordination and leadership of the Bring Back Ohakim (BBO 2027) Organization.

The celebration commenced with a humanitarian outreach to the Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, Owerri, where members of BBO 2027 undertook a compassionate intervention by paying the medical bills of eligible in-patients across the hospital’s wards who were due for discharge. More than two million naira was paid in medical bills that included two children, a newborn, pregnant women and other adults.

For the organizers, the humanitarian gesture was deliberately chosen as the opening activity because the essence of leadership, in their view, is ultimately measured by its impact on human lives. It’s an attribute well known and associated with the celebrant.

The celebration subsequently moved into a major birthday gathering featuring goodwill messages, tributes, reflections on Dr. Ohakim’s administration and legacy, his personal and public life, and the cutting of his birthday cake.

The week thereafter featured a series of radio programmes and media engagements during which participants discussed the former Governor’s life, leadership, administration and what supporters describe as his enduring legacy of purposeful governance.

The activities culminated on Sunday with thanksgiving services across Nigeria and the diaspora, where supporters gathered in their respective churches and places of worship to thank Almighty God for the life of the former Governor.

One of the most significant developments highlighted during the birthday activities was the petition campaign being coordinated by the BBO 2027 Organization, which has now reached over 100,000 signatures of Imolites at home and in the diaspora, calling on Dr. Ikedi Ohakim to answer what his supporters describe as the call of the people and offer himself for the 2027 Imo State governorship election.

The petition has become a central component of the BBO 2027 campaign to demonstrate that the call for Dr. Ohakim’s return is not merely an organizational aspiration, but reflects a broader expression of support from people across Imo State and among Imolites living outside the country.

For the supporters, the signatures represent more than numbers. They describe them as individual voices of people who have chosen to associate their names with a call for experienced leadership, continuity, justice, equity and what they consider purposeful governance.

The petition campaign has therefore become an important part of the organization’s broader effort to Project, Promote and Protect the person, achievements and legacy of Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, while encouraging him to consider returning to public service.

At the thanksgiving services, prayers were offered for Dr. Ohakim’s continued sound health, wisdom, strength, discernment and divine protection.

Supporters expressed gratitude for the preservation of his life and for the opportunity to celebrate another year of his journey, while praying that God would continue to grant him the grace, wisdom and strength to contribute meaningfully to the affairs of Imo State and Nigeria.

There was also a strong emotional dimension to the thanksgiving, as many participants reflected on the passage of time, the former Governor’s years in public service and the continuing relevance of his name and administration in political conversations across Imo State.

For many of his supporters, the birthday was therefore not simply an anniversary. It was an opportunity to look backward with gratitude, examine the present with honesty and look toward the future with renewed hope.

The conclusion of the celebration also provided an opportunity for BBO 2027 and its affiliated support groups to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful, constitutional and democratic political engagement.

The organization emphasized that its activities would continue to focus on grassroots engagement, public advocacy, political education and constructive engagement with Imolites at home and abroad.

With structures extending across the three Senatorial Zones, the 27 Local Government Areas, 305 electoral wards and communities across the State, BBO 2027 says it intends to sustain its engagement with the people while continuing to build support around its vision for Imo State.

The week-long celebration consequently ended not with a closing of the campaign, but with a renewed sense of purpose.

As supporters returned from churches and places of worship on Sunday, the dominant message was one of gratitude to God for the life of Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, to those who participated in the birthday activities, and to the thousands of Imolites whose names now form part of the growing petition calling on the former Governor to return to the political arena in 2027.

For the organizers and supporters of BBO 2027, the celebration may have ended, but the larger journey continues: a journey anchored on justice, equity, purposeful leadership and the hope of a renewed Imo State.
