THE SEARCH FOR THE SUCCESSOR OF SENATOR HOPE UZODINMA

By Ngwonye, H.N.
Before we repeat the mistake of 2011, which sent Imo State 50 years back, we should not trust on the promises of those jostling to succeed His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the incumbent governor of the State.
Let us remember what the Bible says in Jeremiah chapter 17 verse 9: “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it”? Political parties should not use possession of money as a yardstick for choosing their candidates, so that the candidate may not have excuse for looting public treasury when he eventually emerges Governor..
The good people of Imo State have been deceived at various times by those who promised to beat the records of the great Chief Sam Mbakwe of the blessed memory. We should not allow sentiments and cheap blackmail make us give wrong judgement and suffer the consequence, just like what happened in 2011, when lies were fabricated and peddled against Chief Ikedi Ohakim and a ‘messiah’ came. The resultant effect is the incalculable damage to Imo State’s sociopolitical and economic life.
I am of the opinion that a person who has the cognate experience, love for Ndi Imo and can sustain the legacies of the Uzodinma administration, should be considered. I have the strong feeling that His Excellency, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has the wherewithal to be a good successor to Gov. Uzodinma. Both Uzodinma and Ohakim have worked together as governorship and deputy governorship candidates respectively in 2004. Neither of them is too greedy over landed property.
They are not land grabbers. Governor Uzodinma sacked one of his commissioners for trying to grab people’s land. I don’t think he has another house in Owerri after becoming governor. Uzodinma still lives in his old house at Omuma, his home town. Equally, Chief Ohakim lives in his bungalow at Prefab. He did not build another house while serving as Governor, unlike his successor. Painfully, all missionaries engaged in 2011 failed in their mission.
We pray God to show mercy on Imo State, for us to join other progressive States, in order to have continuity in government.
