Zion City: Uzodimma, Ebuka Obi And The Emerging Economic Transformation Of Imo State

There are moments when religious gatherings transcend the boundaries of worship and become important milestones in the social and economic development of a people. The growing transformation of Zion City in Ngor-Okpala, Imo State, appears to be one of such moments.
The grand finale of the 100-day fasting and prayer programme of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach (ZPMO), held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, attracted thousands of worshippers and supporters to Zion City, while also drawing the attention of the Imo State Government and prominent personalities.
At the centre of the occasion was the remarkable development taking place at Zion City and the strong relationship between the ministry and the government of Imo State under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Governor Uzodimma, who participated in the Grand Finale of the Annual World Conference/Global Crusade of Miraculous Takeover, expressed his appreciation for the work being undertaken by Zion Prayer Movement Outreach and its founder, Evangelist Ebuka Obi.
The governor recalled that when the ministry approached the Imo State Government as it prepared to establish its permanent site in the state, he was delighted to support the initiative because of the overriding public interest it represented.
After witnessing the scale of development at Zion City, Governor Uzodimma said he was amazed by what had already been achieved.
He commended Evangelist Ebuka Obi for his steadfastness in the work of God and for the spiritual guidance he continues to provide to members of the ministry.
According to the governor, Zion Prayer Movement is not only contributing to the spiritual lives of its worshippers but is also having a meaningful impact on commerce, trade and economic activities within its host community and across Imo State.
Governor Uzodimma further assured the ministry that the Imo State Government would continue to support its success, noting that the activities of Zion Prayer Movement have helped to bring religious pilgrimage and tourism to Imo State.
This recognition by Governor Uzodimma is significant because the development of Zion City goes beyond the construction of a religious facility. It represents the emergence of a major investment corridor capable of generating employment, attracting businesses, increasing property values and stimulating tourism.
In his own remarks, Evangelist Ebuka Obi commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for the support extended to Zion Prayer Movement Outreach and for the developmental projects being undertaken across Imo State.
The commendation reflects the importance of collaboration between government and private institutions in driving development.
The relationship between the Imo State Government and the Zion Prayer Movement demonstrates what can happen when government creates an enabling environment for large-scale private investment while investors remain committed to developing their host communities.
Ngor-Okpala has increasingly gained visibility as a result of the massive development taking place around the Zion City corridor, particularly around areas such as Amala, Eziama and Umuoma.
Property values in the surrounding communities have reportedly increased significantly as investors, worshippers, artisans, traders and other economic actors anticipate the full completion and operation of the project.
Even communities farther away have reportedly begun experiencing the effect.
The development of Zion City is ultimately bigger than one individual or one religious organisation.
It is a reminder that Imo state needs more large-scale investments that create jobs, attract visitors, develop infrastructure and keep economic activities within the state.
Governor Hope Uzodimma’s support, Evangelist Ebuka Obi’s vision and the participation of private investors and local communities can potentially combine to create a new economic corridor in Ngor-Okpala.
The grand finale of the 100-day programme on August 23 may therefore be remembered not simply as the conclusion of a spiritual exercise, but as another chapter in the emergence of Zion City as a major religious, commercial and tourism destination.
And if Zion City fulfils the vision behind its construction, Ngor-Okpala—and indeed Imo State—could be among the major beneficiaries.
