Stop Insulting the Sensibilities Of Our People – Bede Eke Cautions Dr. Matthew Amadi

…Says attacking Gov. Uzodinma won’t lead to Douglas House

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Imo State Commissioner for Housing, Urban Renewal and New Cities, Rt. Hon. Bede Eke, has cautioned Dr. Matthew Amadi, popularly known as Mazi Gburugburu, against dragging the names of Ngor Okpala leaders into his governorship ambition.

Eke, who represented Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency between 2014 and 2023, issued the warning in Owerri recently while addressing journalists.

According to him, while Dr. Amadi is a son of Ngor Okpala, his campaign tactics amount to insults on the sensibilities of the people.

“His campaign of calumny, aimed at portraying APC leaders from the area as anti-development and non-progressive, will not earn him a ticket to Douglas House,” Eke stated.

Reacting to the Ngor Okpala stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday, August 25, at Nguru Umuaro Central School Field – the same community Eke hails from – the commissioner described the event as “a demonstration of desperation.”

He said most respected leaders from the area deliberately stayed away from the meeting to avoid being associated with what he termed a platform for attacking an incumbent governor.

“The 2027 elections are around the corner, and leaders from Owerri zone are closing ranks to ensure a credible and acceptable candidate emerges. Resorting to dropping the governor’s name and blaming him for infrastructural challenges is a desperate move that will not work,” Eke stressed.

He praised stakeholders such as Chief JohnBosco Ozigbo, Chief Tony Chukwu, and Prince Alex Mbata, whom he said had leveraged their personal capacity and networks to attract projects to their communities without seeking cheap political mileage.

“Charity, they say, begins at home. If Dr. Amadi has the same capacity, he should first replicate such development in his hometown before extending it to Ngor Okpala and beyond, rather than resorting to attacks on the governor,” he advised.

Eke further emphasized that the question of who succeeds Governor Hope Uzodinma in 2027 is beyond insults and blackmail, reiterating that governorship is a collective responsibility.

He urged Ngor Okpala people to continue supporting the 3R government of Senator Hope Uzodinma, whom he described as a leader committed to the progress of the state.
