Ngor Okpala leaders propose for creation of additional local governments from Ngor Okpala.

Leaders of Ngor Okpala local government area have proposed for the creation of an additional five local governments from the existing Ngor Okpala LGA.

The proposal was made recently after a joint meeting of critical stakeholders from Ngor Okpala held at the palace of HRM Eze Frederick Nwachukwu, deputy chairman Imo state council of Ndi Eze (Owerri zone) and chairman Ngor Okpala council of traditional Rulers. The leaders pointed out that the proposal is driven by the need to enhance administrative efficiency, promote socioeconomic prosperity, and ensure more effective representation for the people of Ngor Okpala.
According to them , the existing Ngor Okpala local government structure has become inadequate to cater to the needs of the growing population, leading to inefficiencies in service delivery and representation.

Speaking on the importance of the creation of an additional local government from the existing Ngor Okpala LGA, Eze Frederick Nwachukwu urged Ngor Okpala leaders to embrace this opportunity and join hands together to actualize the project.

A technical committee was set up with Barr Patrice Akwara as the chairman while other prominent sons and daughters of Ngor Okpala are members.

Taking it further , the committee chairman Barr Patrice Akwara said that many efforts have been made to meet up with the conditions, requirements and deadline as given by the House of Representatives Committee on the creation of additional local government. According to him, the committee has proposed for the creation of an additional five local governments from the existing Ngor Okpala LGA, which include the following ;

Ngor Okpala North local government, which shall cover the northern part of Ngor Okpala with the following communities; Imerienwe, Upe, Nguru, Umuowa, with its proposed headquarters in Nguru

Ngor Okpala South local government, which covers the southern part of Ngor Okpala with the following communities; Okpala, Eziama, Uchulu, Ubichukwu, Ntu, Oburu/Obokwe, Alulu, Amala, Ikem and Alatia, with its proposed headquarters in Eziama.

Ngor Okpala East local government, which covers the eastern part of Ngor Okpala with the following communities; Logara, Umuohiagu, Obiangwu, and Ezemba with its proposed headquarters in Umuohiagu

Ngor Okpala Central local government , which covers the central part of Ngor Okpala with the following communities; Ohekelem, Ihitte okwe, Ngor, Umuhu, Nnorie, Umukabia and Ogodo, with its proposed headquarters in Umuneke

Ngor Okpala West local government, which covers the western part of Ngor Okpala with the following communities; Obike, Egbelu Umuekwune, Okpala Umuekwune, Obioma, Ozuzu and Elelem , with its proposed headquarters in Obike.

Ngor Okpala local government area with a land area of 561 square kilometres is the largest local government area in Imo State in land mass. The area is densely populated, with a projected population of over 219,400 people.

Mathew Nwaogu, member representing Aboh Mbaise Ngor Okpala federal constituency, Hon Mrs Chika Ibekwe, executive chairman Ngor Okpala LGA, Okenze S.I Obinna, Barr Patrice Akwara, Chief Val Okere (Amadioha Ngor Okpala), Chief MacDonald Enwere, publisher Bold Magazine, leaders of Onyoko Ngor Okpala led by Hon. Salem Ejereonyeoku and Dr Perry Njoku, and other prominent leaders of Ngor Okpala.
