STATE OF NGOR OKPALA ROADS:Amajirionwu’s Open Letter to Governor Uzodinma is Self-Serving and Misleading -Hon. Bede aEke

The Honourable Commissioner for Housing, Urban Renewal and New Cities Development, Hon. Bede Eke, has strongly criticized the open letter written by Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu to Governor Hope Uzodinma concerning the poor state of roads in Ngor Okpala, describing it as self-serving, dishonest, and politically motivated.
Hon. Eke urged the people of Ngor Okpala to disregard Amajirionwu’s claims, asserting that the former legislator played a role in the current condition of the roads. According to Eke, Amajirionwu failed to acknowledge his own contributions to the deterioration of the infrastructure when he held positions of influence.
He recalled that during the administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha, Amajirionwu was a key figure in the ruling APC and actively participated in the flag-off of the Ulakwo–Umuneke–Nkwoala road project. The same project, Eke noted, was used as a campaign tool by Amajirionwu during his 2019 bid for the House of Representatives.
Eke alleged that equipment such as caterpillars and bulldozers were showcased at the project site by Amajirionwu and other APC leaders at the time, yet no meaningful progress was made, despite funds being released by the state government.
Further highlighting what he called Amajirionwu’s inconsistency, Eke stated that during Governor Uzodinma’s first term, Amajirionwu served as Special Adviser on Market and Allied Matters but never raised the issue of the roads’ deplorable condition.
“As a former member of the Imo State House of Assembly who represented Ngor Okpala, I have reviewed the Votes and Proceedings of the 9th Assembly. At no time did Amajirionwu present a motion, raise the issue during adjournment, or make any legislative case regarding the state of our roads not even during budget debates or committee defenses,” Eke said.
Responding directly to Amajirionwu’s mention of his name in the open letter, Eke clarified that as a Commissioner in the 3-R administration, he is fully aware of the appropriate channels to address issues affecting his LGA or Ministry and such communications are not meant for public forums.
“The open letter was not written out of genuine concern for the people of Ngor Okpala. It was clearly a political stunt aimed at attracting attention and scoring cheap points. Amajirionwu is a political jobber whose actions are guided by personal interest rather than public service,” Eke stated.
He also questioned what has changed since Amajirionwu resigned from the APC, insisting that his recent public outbursts are consistent with a pattern of political opportunism.
Eke concluded by appealing to the people of Ngor Okpala to remain patient, assuring them that Governor Uzodinma’s 3-R administration is aware of the situation and is committed to addressing the road infrastructure challenges across the state in due course.
