INEC Launches Online Pre-Registration for 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the online pre-registration of voters as part of the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
In an announcement made via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the commission encouraged all eligible Nigerians to begin their registration process through the INEC CVR portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org.
The newly introduced online pre-registration system allows prospective voters to submit their personal details—including full names, date of birth, residential addresses, and preferred polling units—before scheduling an in-person appointment to complete biometric capture and verification. This initiative aims to streamline the voter registration process, reduce overcrowding at registration centers, and enhance efficiency.
INEC emphasized that the exercise is particularly crucial for first-time voters and those who need to update their voter information. The commission also assured the public of adequate security measures to protect registrants’ data.
The CVR exercise is a continuous process mandated by Nigeria’s Electoral Act to ensure all eligible citizens are captured in the national voter database ahead of elections. INEC has urged Nigerians to take advantage of the online pre-registration to avoid last-minute rush as the 2027 polls approach.
Further updates on registration timelines, physical verification centers, and additional requirements will be communicated by the commission in due course.
