Imo State Chapter Of JONAPWD Embarks on Courtesy Visit To Ngor-Okpala LGA Chairman

In a bid to foster a harmonious relationship and advocate for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in local government policies, the Imo State Chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Mrs. Chika Ibekwe. Led by Barr. Chidubem Uzodinma Ekwelem, the State Executives of JONAPWD emphasized the need for a formal relationship between the association and the Ngor-Okpala Local Government administration.

The visit marked a significant step towards addressing the concerns and challenges faced by persons with disabilities within the local government area. JONAPWD representatives stressed the importance of inclusive policies and programs that cater to the needs of persons with disabilities.

They also highlighted the necessity of incorporating persons with disabilities into decision-making roles within the local government systems.

Hon. Chief Mrs. Chika Ibekwe acknowledged the concerns raised by JONAPWD and pledged to increase her support for the association.

The courtesy visit has paved the way for future collaboration between JONAPWD and the Ngor-Okpala Local Government administration.

With the council chairman’s commitment to addressing the plight of persons with disabilities, the association is optimistic about the potential development of more inclusive local government policies.

As Hon. Chief Mrs. Chika Ibekwe noted, Nigeria has laws and policies in place to protect the rights of people with disabilities, but implementation remains inconsistent.

With the support of Governor Hope Uzodinma, the association is hopeful that persons with disabilities in Imo State and Ngor-Okpala will benefit greatly from this administration.
