In a bold move, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has made public his awareness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) supposed plan to take him into custody after his tenure ends on November 14. Speaking at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session in Abuja, Obaseki shared that he’s received intel about the EFCC’s intention to detain him over alleged fraudulent activities.

Undaunted, Obaseki declared that he’s not intimidated by the prospect of arrest or investigation into his administration. He attributed the petitions filed against him to vindictive individuals. Confident in his integrity, Obaseki asserted that he would utilize his time in EFCC custody to conduct research, emphasizing that he has nothing to conceal.

Obaseki highlighted his administration’s accomplishments, citing legacy projects that have positively impacted Edo State. He emphasized his focus on the welfare of the Edo people and the implementation of essential reforms. Unfazed by potential repercussions, Obaseki stated, “Why should I be afraid? I’ve stayed true to my beliefs, and our achievements speak for themselves.”
