Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the safe rescue of schoolchildren and teachers who were abducted in Oriire, Oyo State, describing the operation as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting the lives of Nigerians.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Government and people of Imo State, Uzodimma praised the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for securing the release of the victims after 56 days in captivity. He noted that the children and their teachers were freed unharmed without the payment of ransom or any concession to their abductors.
The governor expressed joy over the victims’ return and congratulated their families, as well as the Government and people of Oyo State, on the successful outcome of the rescue operation.
According to Uzodimma, the operation followed a direct presidential directive and was carried out by a joint task force comprising personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, intelligence agencies and other security services. He said the operation led to the dismantling of the kidnappers’ network, the arrest of eight suspects and the unconditional release of all the captives.
He described the development as evidence of President Tinubu’s determination to combat terrorism and insecurity, stressing that criminal elements involved in the abduction of innocent citizens would neither be rewarded nor allowed to operate with impunity.
Uzodimma also commended the security personnel who participated in the operation, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifice throughout the weeks-long mission. He extended solidarity to the rescued children, their teachers and their families as they begin the process of recovery.
As Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the Imo State governor reaffirmed the support of the forum for President Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies in the ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism and strengthen national security.
