Tinubu Appoints Bianca Ojukwu As Foreign Minister, Nominates Enikanolaiye As Minister Of State
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, effective immediately, following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar. Tuggar stepped down to pursue his gubernatorial ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, brings extensive diplomatic experience to the role at a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s international relations.
In a related development, President Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye from Kogi State as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.
Enikanolaiye, who until recently served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, has over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service. His distinguished career includes roles as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as key diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
The appointments were announced in a State House press release signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. They form part of the administration’s broader effort to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy toward greater efficiency, stronger strategic partnerships, and enhanced economic diplomacy.
President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to prioritise Nigeria’s national interests, promote regional stability, and safeguard the welfare of Nigerians worldwide.
