By Don Uba
The national leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dissolved its Imo State Working Committee and constituted a 17-member Caretaker Committee to steer the party’s affairs for the next 90 days.

In a letter dated August 14, 2025, and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, the National Working Committee (NWC) explained that the decision followed “reports on the activities within the Imo State Chapter.”
The NWC, invoking the party’s 2022 Constitution (as amended), announced the appointment of Engineer Augustine Okere as Acting State Chairman and Comrade Onyekachi Asonye as Acting State Secretary. The new team has been tasked with reorganizing the state chapter, restoring credibility, and strengthening the SDP’s electoral prospects ahead of future polls.
