The Commissioner for Health in Imo State, Dr. Vivian Chioma Egu, has categorically dismissed allegations of a crack in the Ministry, diversion of funds, and dereliction of duty. Speaking to journalists in Owerri on Tuesday , the Commissioner described the allegations as baseless and unfounded, warning purveyors of fake news to refrain from mentioning her name in their malicious publications.
According to Dr. Egu, the allegations against her and the Ministry are a clear case of envy and desperation by individuals who are intimidated by the success the Health Ministry has recorded under her watch within the period. “We have achieved tremendous success in the health sector, and it’s no secret that the Governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator (Dr) Hope Uzodimma’s policies have been a game-changer for the people of Imo State,” she said.
The Commissioner highlighted some of the achievements of the Ministry, including the 55 new health centers approved by Governor Uzodimma, whose construction work is at advanced stages in various communities across the State. “These health centers will not only improve access to healthcare services but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth in our communities,” she explained.
She however assured the People of Imo State that the State government, under Governor Uzodimma’s leadership, is committed to upgrading the health sector, with a view to making Imo the next health tourism center across the nation. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that our healthcare system is second to none, and we will not be deterred by baseless allegations,” she said, while expressing her gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support for the Health Ministry, saying that his policies have been instrumental to the success recorded so far. “I want to assure the people of Imo State that we will continue to work hard to justify the trust Governor Uzodimma has reposed in us,” she added.
When asked about the specific allegations of diversion of funds, Dr. Egu dismissed them as “laughable and ridiculous.” and maintained that impress is for the day-to-day running of the Ministry and to not meant to be shared by head of departments. Insisting that Anyone who has been genuinely following the activities of the ministry will agree that there has been a paradigm shift from the old order and the allegations may not be far from top functionaries who are not happy with the transparent system and processes that Egu has set in motion.”.
The Commissioner also debunked allegations of dereliction of duty, saying that she has been working tirelessly to improve healthcare delivery in the State. “I am always the first person to arrive and equally the last person to leave the office daily.” My commitment to the people of Imo State is unwavering,” she added.
Dr. Egu warned purveyors of fake news to refrain from spreading falsehood about her and the Ministry, saying that she would not hesitate to seek legal redress if the allegations persist. “I will not allow anyone to tarnish my reputation or that of the Ministry with baseless allegations’
The Commissioner reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to upholding Governor Uzodimma’s policies for the betterment of the people of Imo State. “We are poised to take the health sector to the next level, and we will not be deterred by the malicious activities of a few individuals,”
