Erstwhile member of the Presidential Tink-Tank Group during the tenure of late President Muhammadu Buhari and presently, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Prof Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe along with other select Igbo leaders and stakeholders, are to converge in Abuja on Wednesday, August 27,2025,to brain storm on the way forward for the Igbo race in the current political dispensation in Nigeria. The meeting, which is expected to be held at Chelsea Hotel, Central Business District, will be non-partisan and will solely focus on the Igbo agenda.

According to a letter of invitation extended to Prof Ajumbe and signed by the convener and pioneer Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),Chief Chekwas Okorie (Ojeozi Ndigbo), it has become expedient for Ndigbo to redefine how they are shabily treated in Nigeria. He informed Ajumbe that “we owe ourselves and the younger generations, the responsibility to provide the required guidance and chart a deliberate action-plan to reverse our present unacceptable situation in a sustainable manner.”

Okorie told Ajumbe, who was also the former Chairman of the All Nigerian Peoples Party(ANPP) as well as former Commissioner for Information,Tourism and Public Utilities in Imo State, that God has blessed Ndigbo with a huge population and enviable geographical spread, but regretted that “these blessings have remained largely untapped over the years,” adding that “we have no excuse to lack relevance and well deserved respect in Nigeria.”

He further explained that it is because of the urgent need to address and redress the anomalies against Ndigbo in Nigeria, that Prof Ajumbe and other select Igbo leaders and critical stakeholders are being invited to the crucial meeting. Okorie stated that the need for the meeting arose “because of the concerns expressed by many Igbo leaders on the state of the Igbo nation in Nigerian politics at this time.”

He intimated Ajumbe that “after a number of consultations, it became compelling that a select number of our leaders across political party lines and other critical stakeholders be invited to deliberate on what ought to be the agenda of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics irrespective of political party affiliations.”
