Deflecting Blame: Sultan of Sokoto’s Misguided Attack on Social Media

The recent statement from the Sultan of Sokoto labeling social media a terrorist organization raises eyebrows. Is this a genuine concern or a calculated move to deflect attention from the real terrorists plaguing Nigeria?

It appears that the Sultan’s ire towards social media stems from its exposure of Fulani herdsmen’s banditry activities. Those benefiting from insecurity often fear the media’s power and will condemn it to protect their interests. Meanwhile, Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram have wreaked havoc on Nigerian communities, destroying properties and claiming thousands of lives.

Rather than condemning the media, traditional leaders should focus on finding solutions to the crisis. Their priorities are questionable, sparking concerns about their potential connections to terrorism. The situation demands urgent attention, and seeking international military assistance may be necessary to restore peace and security across Nigeria
