SOCIETY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS OF NIGERIA (SOFPON), IMO CHAPTER LAUDS GOV. UZODIMMA FOR APPOINTING DR CHIOMA EGU AS HEALTH COMMISSIONER
The Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON), Imo State Chapter, extends her warmest congratulations to Dr. Chioma Vivian Egu on her appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Social Services, and Health Insurance by the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON.
As a member of the West African College of Physicians, specialised in Family Medicine and working at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Owerri, Dr. Egu has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership and a deep commitment to providing improved, quality healthcare. Her involvement in SOFPON, as Chairman of the very successful 2024 AGSM Fundraising subcommittee, current Financial Secretary of the Imo State Chapter of SOFPON, and a Senior Registrar in the National Health Insurance Agency Unit of the FTH, Owerri, showcase her tireless efforts to advance medical services and promote colleagues’ welfare.
Dr. Egu’s appointment is a step forward for the health sector in Imo State (building on already existing achievements), as her expertise and work experience make her a perfect fit for the role – a round peg in a round hole. Governor Uzodimma’s decision to appoint Dr. Egu is a welcome development considering her impressive background as a Family Physician who has been involved in policy making, implementation, and day-to-day running of the health insurance scheme at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri. It also cements the close relationship between His Excellency, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma and SOFPON. Gov. Uzodimma has been exceptional in driving towards achieving Universal Health Coverage in Imo State through a robust State Health Insurance Scheme and hosted delegates from all over Nigeria to a most memorable SOFPON AGSM here in Owerri last November. We have no doubt that Dr. Egu will leverage on her specialisation to develop policies enhancing Imo State’s healthcare system and justify the decision of His Excellency to appoint a Family Physician as the Commissioner for Health.
