Former Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Chief (Dr) Sir. Ikedi Godson Ohakim, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned business leader and elder statesman, Mr. Pascal Dozie, describing the news of his death as a devastating shock.
In a heartfelt statement released to the press, Ohakim said that even at the age of 85, Mr. Dozie’s death was unexpected, as many Nigerians still looked forward to his continued contributions to national development.

Ohakim stated, “It is said in our native parlance that there is never a good time to die, but the news over the passage of our big brother, Mr. Pascal Dozie, came to me with a big shock. I am devastated by the death because even at the age of 85, many of us still looked forward to his continued contribution to the good of our country.”
Recalling their long-standing relationship, the former governor shared fond memories of their first encounter during his tenure as Imo State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
According to Ohakim, Dozie’s consulting firm had won a contract to conduct a statewide survey on raw material deposits and potential industrial applications.
“He performed that assignment creditably well, and my admiration of him grew exponentially from that time,” Ohakim said.

Late Pascal Dozie
Their professional paths would cross again years later when Ohakim was serving as a director at the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemicals Company Limited, and Mr. Dozie’s Diamond Bank sought to establish a banking relationship with the company. That relationship was granted, and their mutual respect and cordiality endured over the years.
Mr. Pascal Dozie, a respected economist, entrepreneur, and founder of Diamond Bank, was widely recognized for his immense contributions to Nigeria’s financial sector and economic growth. Beyond business, he was also revered for his character and humility—qualities Ohakim said should be remembered and emulated.
“Those of us who are surviving him will do his memory no greater honor than to uphold the ideals of humility, honesty and hard work which he lived for,” he said.
Ohakim concluded by offering condolences on behalf of his family to the Dozie family and praying that God grants the late business titan eternal rest.
Mr. Pascal Dozie passed away recently at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, service, and impact in both public and private spheres.
