Ngor Okpala Executive Chairman, Chief Mrs. Chika Ibekwe Holds Stakeholders Meeting to Map Out Development Plan
In a crucial stakeholders meeting aimed at addressing the security and development challenges of Ngor Okpala LGA, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Chief Mrs. Chika Ibekwe, sought the opinion of Ngor Okpala Stakeholders, comprising political leaders, His Royal Highnesses, President Generals, Community women and Youth Leaders, Clergies, Notable dignitaries and Security Chiefs of the LGA on how best to tackle the security and development challenges of Ngor Okpala. The meeting, which attracted notable personalities, focused on analyzing the pressing issues facing the LGA and formulating sustainable solutions.
In her opening remarks, Hon. Chief Mrs. Ibekwe outlined her meeting agenda, emphasizing the urgent need to addressing security concerns and improve road infrastructure within the local government area. She stressed that these two issues are critical to driving development and improving the quality of life for the people of Ngor Okpala.
Prominent leaders, including Okenze S.I Obinna, Dr. T.O. Ekechi, Hon. Obinna Egu (PhD), Chief Joe Nwankwo, HRH Eze Frederick Nwachukwu alongside other Ngor Okpala Leaders and security chiefs participated in the discussions. Together, they examined the road infrastructural decay and security challenges plaguing the area and explored actionable steps to mitigate them.
Hon. Chief Mrs. Ibekwe emphasized on the role of Traditional Rulers in security matters and community policing, expressing her administration’s readiness to partner with Traditional Rulers in combating security challenges in the LGA. She called for the active involvement of Traditional Rulers in security matters, as they hold vital knowledge about the local populace.
Speaking on the issue of road infrastructure, the Executive Chairman, Mrs. Ibekwe expressed concern on the poor state of roads, particularly the critical need to reconstruct the main road leading to the LGA headquarters from Ihitte junction. She acknowledged that while the government has a role to play, development requires collaborative efforts between government and community leaders. Mrs. Ibekwe urged Ndi Eze and other community heads to outline their development priorities and work closely with the LGA leadership to achieve them.
HRH Eze Frederick Nwachukwu while proffering solution on security matters highlighted that Governors are the Chief security of their States, so also the Chairmen are the chief security of their LGAs and they all have funds in their possession to fight insecurity. He expressed that Ndi Ezes are the chief security officers of their Communities, and they as well need monthly security funds to combat security challenges in their respective communities.
In his remarks, Hon. Obinna Egu (PhD), Member representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly, reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the security issues and infrastructure challenges facing the LGA. He stressed the need for communities to observe due process in handling security affairs and urged indigenes to report security incidents to law enforcement agencies instead of taking laws into their hands.
The Area Commander, Aboh Mbaise, Nigeria Police, CSP Agbazue Patrick Chukwuemeka properly addressed the issue of Herdsmen / community clashes, acknowledging the menace of harders in some community lands and advised communities to engage the leaders of Herdsmen in peaceful dialogue. A significant proposal during the meeting was to invite the heads of the Fulani/herdsmen groups in Ngor Okpala to discuss the terms of their stay in the area. Mrs. Ibekwe believes this initiative will help reduce potential security threats in the LGA.
Dr. T.E.O Ekechi, former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, while addressing the issue of Ngor Okpala infrastructural decay, acknowledged the failure of Ngor Okpala Political leaders, using himself as an instance and thereby apologies to the people of Ngor Okpala on behalf of other leaders for not living up to the expectations of the people. He urged for more pragmatic political leadership in Ngor Okpala to engineer robust infrastructural development in the area.
Addressing stakeholders on Ngor Okpala road infrastructural decay, Okenze S.I. Obinna noted that the acts of Pull-Him-Down (PHD) syndrome led to serious setback in Ngor Okpala infrastructure development, he echoed these sentiments by leaders as a serious threat to Ngor Okpala development, he solicited that urgent action is required to address the deteriorating road conditions. He proposed a collective approach, suggesting that notable leaders should move together to the Governor to press for immediate intervention. According to Okenze, such a show of unity would likely result in swift attention of the Governor to our dilapidating roads.
The meeting served as a platform for community engagement, where participants identified key problems and brainstormed practical solutions to foster sustainable development. By pooling insights from local leaders, law enforcement agencies, and community members, the stakeholders demonstrated a commitment to collaborative problem-solving.
Hon. Chief Mrs. Chika Ibekwe concluded the meeting by reiterating her administration’s dedication to ensuring a safer and more prosperous Ngor Okpala. She encouraged continuous dialogue between the government and community leaders, noting that collective efforts are essential for achieving lasting progress.
As the meeting closed, it was clear that the future of Ngor Okpala depends on the unity and proactive involvement of all stakeholders. The success or failure of the LGA, as Hon. Chief Mrs. Ibekwe highlighted, is a shared responsibility.
