FLAC Honours Governor Hope Uzodimma With Special Friend Award, Strengthens Cancer Awareness Campaign

The First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), alongside wives of State Governors, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, and members of the Imo State Extended Executive Council at the Government House in Owerri as part of activities marking the organisation’s Annual General Meeting and Cancer Survivors Month.

The visit underscored FLAC’s commitment to intensifying advocacy for cancer prevention, early detection and treatment, with a particular focus on encouraging women and girls to undergo regular cancer screenings and receive vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a leading cause of cervical cancer.

During the visit, FLAC conferred on Governor Uzodimma the distinguished title of Special Friend of FLAC in recognition of his support for the organisation’s programmes and his commitment to advancing cancer awareness and improving healthcare delivery in Imo State.

Speaking during the presentation, FLAC Chairperson and First Lady of Imo State, Barrister Chioma Uzodimma, said the recognition reflects the governor’s dedication to promoting health initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of cancer through sustained public awareness and access to preventive healthcare.

She noted that the governor’s continued support would further strengthen FLAC’s advocacy efforts and expand its outreach programmes across Imo State and other parts of the country.

The courtesy visit formed part of a series of activities organised by FLAC to commemorate Cancer Survivors Month, while reaffirming the organisation’s resolve to work with governments and stakeholders to promote cancer prevention, early diagnosis and improved care for patients and survivors.
