NDC Zones 2027 Presidency To South For Single Four-Year Term

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term, opening the door for southern aspirants — including former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi — to contest under the party’s platform.

The resolution was adopted on Saturday during the party’s maiden National Convention held in Abuja.

The motion was moved by the member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, Afam Victor Ogene, and received overwhelming support from delegates at the convention.

Delegates further agreed that upon the completion of the four-year tenure by a southern president, the party’s presidential ticket would automatically revert to Northern Nigeria.

The decision is being viewed as a significant political milestone for southern contenders within the party and is expected to shape political alignments and intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
