Former Imo GDM Chairman, Nze Nicholas Ekenenye Kekeocha, Passes On; Burial Slated For December 19, 2025

The Obowo community has been thrown into mourning following the passing of one of its distinguished political leaders and community pillars, Nze Nicholas Ekenenye Kekeocha, a respected elder statesman and former chairman of the Grassroot Democratic Movement (GDM) in Imo State.

Until his death, Nze Kekeocha served in several strategic public offices, including Chairman of Obowo Local Government, Supervisory Councillor of the defunct Etiti Local Government—where he served alongside the late former governor, Chief Sam Mbakwe—and Councillor representing the entire Ikenanzizi Obowo.
He was widely admired for his dedication to grassroots governance, his firm leadership principles, and his commitment to community development.

According to the family, Nze Kekeocha was not only a public figure but also a devoted mentor and adviser to many who crossed his path. His son-in-law, Austine C. Otuokere, Esq., described him as “a friend, an adviser, and a strong encouragement in my life journey.”

Burial Arrangements

The family announced that he will be laid to rest on Friday, December 19, 2025, at his residence in Owugha Alike, Obowo, following a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Alike Ikenanzizi, Obowo.

Friends, associates, and well-wishers are respectfully invited to attend and to support the family in giving the late statesman a befitting farewell.
