Super Falcons Star Esther Okoronkwo Shares Heartfelt Reaction After MeetingPresident Tinubu

Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has shared her heartfelt experience after meeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the team’s visit to Aso Rock recently. The visit, organized to honour the Nigerian women’s national team, left a lasting impression on the player, especially given her prior perceptions of the President.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Okoronkwo expressed both surprise and admiration for the President’s warm reception.

“I was absolutely surprised by the way President Tinubu welcomed us,” she said, visibly moved. “He didn’t just meet us—he honoured us, celebrated us, and genuinely made us feel appreciated.”

The forward, who hails from the Igbo ethnic group, admitted she had held reservations about the President prior to the meeting—reservations largely influenced by political narratives during the 2023 elections.

“As you already know, I’m Igbo,” she continued, “and because of the 2023 elections, there were so many negative things said about him. People called him names and painted a picture of someone who didn’t care about unity or inclusion. I honestly believed those things too.”

However, her personal encounter with the President changed her perspective entirely.

“But after meeting him yesterday, I saw a completely different person. He was caring, down-to-earth, and had such a great sense of humour. He is nothing like the image people have painted. If you meet him, you’ll definitely fall in love with him.”

The visibly impressed Okoronkwo offered a message of goodwill:

“May the President succeed. I truly hope he does.”

The Super Falcons’ visit to Aso Rock was part of the government’s effort to recognize the team’s achievements and foster unity through sports.
