We Were Mocked As Time Wasters, But We Took The Legal Route — INEC Must Obey Court Order, Says Bashiru

The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bashiru Mohammad, has firmly denied allegations that the Nafiu Bala faction of the party is being secretly funded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the claims during an appearance on Channels Television, Bashiru dismissed the accusations as baseless propaganda aimed at undermining the group’s legal challenge against the faction led by David Mark.
He maintained that, given his position as the party’s spokesperson, he would be fully aware of any external sponsorship if such existed.
Bashiru recalled that when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially recognised the Mark-led faction, his group was ridiculed and labeled as “time wasters.” Despite the mockery, he said they chose not to engage in public confrontations but instead pursued the matter through legal means.
According to him, the group’s approach has always been calm and logical, focusing on due process rather than unnecessary noise.
He emphasized that their demand remains straightforward: INEC must comply with a valid court order, stop recognising what he described as an “unknown group,” and restore the party’s leadership in line with its constitution.
Addressing the allegations directly, Bashiru said there is no evidence to support claims of APC sponsorship, stressing that such assertions are unfounded.
He reiterated that the group is simply seeking respect for the rule of law, particularly the enforcement of the court order pending the final determination of the case.
