Youth leaders across Okigwe Zone in Imo State have declared a united political front ahead of the 2027 general elections, aligning their agenda with the principles of equity, inclusive governance, and strategic leadership for the advancement of the zone.
The resolution was reached on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at a Strategic Youth Summit held at Rock View Hotel, Owerri, themed: “Okigwe Youths Bond Alliance Summit: Advancing Governorship Equity and Senate Representation 2027.”
In his welcome address, the Leader of the Okigwe Zone Youth Alliance, Hon. Chinagorom Cyriacus, stressed the urgency of unity, noting that collective action remains the most viable path to addressing the socio-economic and political challenges confronting the zone.
The summit drew participation from a broad coalition of youth organizations, including Imo Youth Matrix, Imo Youth Parliament, Okigwe Progressive Change, Okigwe Unite, and several student bodies, all of whom pledged commitment to a shared vision for sustainable development and political relevance.
A major highlight of the gathering was the strong recognition of the enduring leadership legacy of former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, whom the youths described as a pivotal figure in the political evolution of Okigwe Zone. They praised his contributions to governance, infrastructure development, and the promotion of Okigwe’s interests on the state and national stage, noting that his leadership continues to serve as a guiding force for emerging generations.
The participants also paid tribute to past leaders, particularly the late former Governor Sam Mbakwe, acknowledging their foundational roles in shaping the developmental trajectory of the zone. Contemporary leaders, including Chief Tony Chukwu and HRH Eze Ohanwe, were equally commended for sustaining political engagement and democratic values.
While appreciating past and present office holders, the youths reaffirmed their confidence in leadership that prioritizes inclusiveness and equity. They also lauded the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, describing him as “a father, brother, and friend” to Okigwe people, and commended his administration’s developmental efforts across the zone.
Following extensive deliberations, the summit adopted a series of resolutions through a motion moved by Hon. Sixtus Njoku and seconded by Hon. Ugochukwu Ekwebelem.
Foremost among the resolutions was the formal establishment of a unified Okigwe Youth Alliance to consolidate political strength and strategically engage stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
The youths unequivocally endorsed the Charter of Equity, reaffirming their commitment to fairness, justice, and the rightful political positioning of Okigwe Zone within the state’s power-sharing arrangement.
In a decisive move, the alliance unanimously adopted Chief Longers Anyanwu (Ebubedike) as their preferred candidate for the Imo North Senatorial seat in 2027. They described him as a pragmatic, accessible, and people-oriented leader with the capacity to deliver effective representation at the National Assembly.
The group further called on Governor Hope Uzodimma and key political stakeholders to respect and support their position, emphasizing that the endorsement reflects the collective will and aspirations of youths across the zone.
Signatories to the communiqué include Hon. Chinagorom Cyriacus (Obowo), Hon. Sixtus Njoku (Ehime Mbano), Hon. Ugochukwu Ekwebelem (Onuimo), Hon. Iyke Anunam (Isiala Mbano), Hon. Okechi Daniel (Ihitte Uboma), and Comrade Christiana Udunna (Okigwe).
The summit concluded with a renewed call for unity, peaceful political participation, and sustained collaboration among stakeholders to secure a more progressive and equitable future for Okigwe Zone.
