WHY ALEX MBATA IS THE LEADER OWERRI ZONE NEEDS FOR IMO EAST SENATE

By James Emeahu
Imo East Senatorial District, popularly called Owerri Zone, stands at a crossroads as we look toward 2027. The zone needs a voice that understands its complexities, a leader with capacity, and someone who has consistently identified with the aspirations of the people. In Alex Mbata, Owerri Zone has that rare combination of experience, vision, and grassroots connection.
First, Alex Mbata brings tested experience in both public service and private enterprise. He understands how government works and how to make it work for the people. Legislative representation is not about noise, it is about strategy, bills, motions, and oversight that translate into real projects. Mbata has the capacity to navigate the National Assembly and bring home results that matter to every LGA in the zone.
Second, the zone needs unity more than anything. Owerri Zone has been fractured by political camps and personal ambitions for too long. Alex Mbata has built a reputation as a bridge-builder. He relates with leaders across party lines and commands respect at the grassroots. His emergence will heal old wounds and give the zone one voice at the Red Chamber, a voice that speaks for Ngor Okpala, Mbaitoli, Ikeduru, Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, Owerri West, and every other community.
Third, his philanthropic nature sets him apart. Long before politics, Alex Mbata was known for reaching out to the vulnerable without cameras or noise. He has sponsored education for indigent students, supported widows and the elderly, and funded medical interventions for families who could not afford care. That same heart of service will shape his constituency office. He understands that true leadership is measured by how the weakest in society are treated.
Fourth, youth and economic empowerment must take center stage. Our young people are talented but lack platforms and opportunities. Alex Mbata has consistently shown commitment to youth development, skills training, and entrepreneurship. In the Senate, he will champion policies and constituency projects that create jobs, fund startups, and equip graduates with skills that match the demands of today’s economy.
Fifth, education and healthcare are critical foundations for any growing society. Mbata’s track record shows he understands the pain of parents who struggle with school fees and families who cannot access quality medical care. He will push for more federal presence in our schools and hospitals, attract tertiary institutions, and ensure that constituency interventions in health reach the rural communities that need them most.
Sixth, infrastructure development remains the backbone of progress. Roads, electricity, water, and digital connectivity determine how businesses thrive. Owerri Zone has suffered neglect in key areas. Alex Mbata has the network and legislative skill to attract federal road projects, rural electrification, and broadband expansion. He knows that without infrastructure, every other promise remains empty.
Seventh, security and community welfare cannot be left to chance. The Senate is where laws that protect lives and property are made and reviewed. Mbata understands the security challenges facing our communities and will work with stakeholders to push for better policing, community intelligence, and support for local vigilante structures. A safe zone is a prosperous zone.
Finally, the time for experimentation is over. Owerri Zone deserves a senator who is prepared from day one, who has the goodwill of the people, and who can deliver without excuses. Alex Mbata has the vision, the humility, and the political will to reposition Imo East. With him in the Senate, Owerri Zone will not just be heard, it will be respected and rewarded.
